The James H Krause Mayors' Park
The James H. Krause Mayors' Park came to us in an interesting way. To find out the origins of the park one must delve in to the history of the city of Schofield. Researching this park takes us back to the beginning of the twentieth century, all the way back to the 1940's. It is interesting to find out what our park used to be and how it became a park.
The land that our park is on used to be farmland. It was owned by a man of the name Gustav Kersemeier. The property totaled 4.5 acres and was sold on a land contract for $3,600 to the Village of Schofield on October 13, 1948. The Village of Schofield had the land deeded to them on April 25, 1953. The original purpose of the land was for baseball diamonds for the local baseball teams to play on.
